Getting Ready for Digital TV

On February 17, 2009, all air wave broadcasting of analog TV signals will cease in the USA. From that date forward, air wave broadcasting will only be done using digital TV signals.  There has been a lot of confusion on this topic and what everyone needs to do to keep their TVs working

What are the implications of the digital TV transition?

If you use an antenna (rooftop or rabbit ears) to receive your TV signal, you will require ONE of the following:

  1. a TV which supports the new digital tuner standard
  2. a digital TV converter box
  3. a subscription to a cable or satellite TV service

The silver lining in all of this … there are great deals on any of these solutions for people who need a solution AND for people who already have a digital TV including:

  • Great deals on new digital TVs
  • Coupons to lower cost of purchasing a digital TV converter box
  • Great offers from the major cable and satellite TV service companies

Why?  Because millions of Americans are all out shopping to find a solution at the same time and the TV manufacturers and the cable/satellite TV companies all want your business!

…and if you get a new digital high-definition TV (HDTV) before Feburary 1, 2009, you’ll get the bonus of being able to the  watch the Superbowl in amazing new high-definition quality!

Helpful post for me since I have some very old TV’s I still use.

My question (which you can ignore if its off-topic) is if you know of a good and trusted resource for getting rid of an old TV. Over the summer I paid to get rid of an old TV through a recycling program and then I saw the same company on 60 minutes shipping their waste to China in a very eco-unfriendly way.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks
